The direction of orthodox religion is a bit off the mark in my view. The ways of "The Church" and it's doctrine do not look within, in order to connect with God, or in other words the Universe. The archaic belief of Heaven and Hell, Saints and Sinners, Hierarchy and Heretics are the ruins of religion. It is void of the pursuit of Self-Realization and the search for Spiritual Enlightenment. Souls fall short of the light.
